Claiming a Horse:
Claim slips available in Racing Secretary Office.
The claim box is located in the race office. Michigan rules stipulate that in order to claim a horse from a claiming race in Michigan,
the claimant must have owned and raced a horse at a Michigan race track within the current calendar year. All claims must be made from your
claiming account with Hazel Park Raceway. Claiming accounts can be established with cash, certified check, money order or Hazel Park
Raceway jockey/trainer/owner checks at any time and funds would be available immediatly for a claim. Additionally, purse funds not yet
distributed but due to you are available for claims. In all cases the amount in your claiming account must not be less than the amount
of the claim.
The claim process must be initiated in person with the Hazel Park Raceway race office by the claimant's agent or representative
15 minutes prior to the posted race time for the race in which the horse to be claimed is racing in. The racing office is
located adjacent to the front outdoor paddock next to the circle in the chute. Office hours are 5:00pm - 10:30pm on race days.
You will need the following information to complete the required forms. If you do not have this information available, the clerk of the
course can help you obtain it, but please allow additional time.
- Full name of buyer and seller.
- Buyer's address
- Cash, certified check or a money order for the full claim price of the horse to be claimed.
Hazel Park Raceway purse checks can also be used as full or partial payment for a claim.
