Friday Focus #9 - WPS Edition
Since we had a 10 cent superfecta edition of the Inside Look last weekend, this time we'll try an 'Across the Board' edition. We'll pick one horse per race and wager $2 WPS. Thanks for the suggestion Ed, this ones for you. Here we go.
Race 1: Nice Michigan Sired field takes front and center in the Friday Opener and Perfect Keylauge is going to be our play. He is racing ultra sharp right now and his off the pace style fits this race quite well.
Finished a quick closing second to Cooper's Niece last week (and she is on a terror). Going to have to beat 2 good ones here in BT's Onaman Lake and Selectric. Both of these horses came off convincing wins last starts. Heres hoping the speed comes back to us.
$2 WPS 3.
Race 2: While it's safe to say most of the money is going to go to Real Fast Moni in this spot, we are going to go with the horse that beat her
2 starts back and thats Artisan's Place for new driver Art Mc. He get's big time post improvement and class relief. He raced a little greenly last out and without a whole lot of speed in here, expect him towards the front end tonight. Also watch Carrera with first time Kramer.
$2 WPS 2.
Race 3: Wattafine looks to dominate again however there are 2 big question marks in this race and both should be at a price. Sy bombed from post 9 in an Open after crushing foes back on June 26. Then he scratched sick which leads me to believe that he wasn't right on July 3.
If he is ok tonight, and does repeat the effort from 6/26, he could be an upsetter. Twin B Excalibur is an Invite horse when he's right so the class hike shouldn't scare anybody caring to back him. He went crazy on a field of Optional $20,000 claimers last week cruising to an 11 length score in 1:57. He finished second to Wattafine back in June when he was not in great form.
$2 WPS 4.
Race 4: One to beat is Jeannies Luck in this spot. She's having trouble hitting the winners circle as she is 0/8 but she has been right there and really meets a soft field. Not quite sure what to expect out of her price wise but she should be on or near the lead every step of the way.
$2 WPS 4.
Race 5: Don't like to go to Post 9 for our selection but we really think Double Royal is sitting on a big effort. He got a horrible trip last out at Balmoral and has been showing speed in previous starts here.
First time Wallis and 3rd time lasix for a horse that out earned everyone in the field last year. Price could be good as top contenders Mystical Speed and Go Deep figure to get lots of mutuel attention.
$2 WPS 9.
Race 6: I've Got the Desire just missed against this level last out and once again he has a big shot to win it all. I have picked this horse I believe 4 of the last 6 times he has raced and he has broken equipment, a costly break, and 2 near misses to prove it. I hope my aura isn't too much for 'Desire' to overcome this time.
$2 WPS 6.
Race 7: Going to go out on a limb with Quando. First time Kramer on a mare making her 5th start of the year. She had a tough trip last race and that was her first in a month so she may have needed it. She draws well and can race from on or off the trot. With Top mare trotters Keyanna Rose, Careless Love, and Gianna all present, we may get a heck of a price tonight. Let's go for it!.
$2 WPS 2.
Race 8: We are going for a major upset in this F&M Preferred and that's Dear Caterina. She was flying late in her effort against softer 2 starts back. Her last start she battled through a big first quarter and then was shuffled but finished with pace against this caliber. It could be her time to shine especially with this being a large field and the logicals out in posts 7,8,and 9.
$2 WPS 2.
Race 9: I am going to go with a trotter I think has an awful lot of potential and that's Caballo Diablo. The double hike is scary and his slow timed win last week is also of concern but if you dig back a few starts you can see where this guy is starting to get it. With speedball Nordic Venture in here, the trot can be very quick early which can set up for our late rushing longshot. And ladies and gents, he will be awfully long. Looking for 20-1 or better.
$2 WPS 1.
Race 10: Aflak made his Michigan return a winning one last out as he outclosed similar despite being a little rough. First time Wallis and although this field is a little deeper, we are going to go for the repeat performance. Nowthatsaplanman is real scary off of his decisive victory against softer in his last. Tattler's Top Gun, VP Power, and Singin Blues can all be dangerous in this spot.
$2 WPS 4.
Race 11: Going to take a shot again from Post 9 with Ima Forget Me Not.
She is real sharp right now, so the class hike is not a worry. What is a worry is the outside post and a live cover flow. There will be speed to race at with Faithfully and others sure to set a decent clip up front.
It's all about striking position and if she has it, then we got a big shot.
$2 WPS 9.
Race 12: Coming right back with My Boy Tom who broke a 0/41 slump last week. Post improvement and this field isn't any tougher then the one he just beat. If we can get the 8-1 morning line, that would be a gift.
Bling It on should be better and Clear the Decks has to be on the ticket.
$2 WPS 2.
Race 13: Noble Niner is real sharp right now and he had to overcome poor striking position to finish a quick closing third in his last.
However I would demand value because this is really a wide open race.
KB's Cousins could be another to look at off of hot Raceway Park form.
Rick Ed is also a big time concern at this claiming level.
$2 WPS 6.
Race 14: Think the move back to cond claimers is a good one for Lady Louise. First time Wallis and the pole position gives us hope that she can come forward enough to win this. Horse to beat is Artistic Heart strictly off her last effort in which she exploded in the lane to win going away against similar.
$2 WPS 1.
Race 15: Going to go with longshot Martha Jane in this spot. She is a nice horse that has certainly underachieved. Maybe this soft field can create a wakeup call for the pretty gray tonight.
$2 WPS 7
Total: $90
