Monday Meltdown #12

Race 1:
Welcome to Michigan Breeders Futurity Night at Hazel Park! First race is an overnight affair for $7500 claimers and Talon Seelster is taking a big drop down the claiming scale after performing evenly against tougher. Draws well and is from a barn that is red hot right now. Standforsomething raced huge in defeat last week at big odds. Draws outside and this may put him in a good situation behind what should be an active cover flow. FWF Successor overcame a parked mile for a huge win in his last.

Race 2:
2 Year Old Colt Trotters to do battle and A Lister is the standout here. Runner up in the Spartan Futurity, he came off the lame scratch real nice with an easy win in the slim. Post may make things mildly interesting, but he is a flat mile from the winners circle here tonight. Righty Tighty was second to A Lister in the Spartan Elim despite making a break at the start. He lost all chance in the finals with another break. First shot on a big track may help. Red Rocks is another that has been right there in this division when he has stayed flat. He has not been able to in his last 2 outings, but if he does he is certainly capable. From a wagering standpoint, the value seems to be A Lister on top with longshots second.

Race 3:
The undefeated Media Darling headlines the 2 YO Filly Pace. Last out at Midland, she blew by the pace setter Tweerific off of some solid fractions to win her division of the Spartan. That broke Tweerific's two race win streak against this division. Pete Wrenn returns to the bike of Tweerific tonight, and her last win was right here at HP in the Platinum. Lady With A Weapon can be an interesting price play. Last time she was here in the Platinum, she went from the pocket to 3 wide and had the lead entering the stretch but tired a bit to finish second.

Race 4:
Division 2 of the Two Year Old Colt Trot and Specialty Training was dominant in the Spartan against much of these same foes. Last time out here at Hazel in the Platinum, he just missed to That's A No No, who starts right outside of him tonight. Pete Wrenn is in the bike tonight. Thats a No No tired in the finals last out but we are going to forgive him for that tiring effort as a rainstorm just past through prior to that leaving the track at Midland less then desirable. Obviously the dominating speed in here. Maravich will be in line for a good trip. This a good one to watch.

Race 5:
Let's try a price here with Deringer Gun. Here is a horse that has been getting better and better. First time Carlson last out in a Maiden over this oval and he rebuffed every challenge that came his way. Prior to that, he was racing evenly against this competition. Let's see of the confidence carries over from the maiden affair. Morelli is the dominant speed and that speed owned the Spartan at Midland. Last over this oval in the Platinum, he finished third but was used hard that entire mile. Was caught by Reibercrombie, who we see here in the rail spot tonight. Reibercrombie was an elimination to the Spartan last out as well, but was scratched for the final.
$5 WP 6. Total $10.

Race 6:
2 YO Filly Trotters take front and center stage here in Race 6 and this is going to be a good one. Ciro's Inspiration was undefeated heading into the Spartan and made several nasty breaks to eliminate herself. Bigger track should help and if she stays flat, she is obviously one tough customer as her previous wins indicate. Misty's Legacy is another that when she stays flat, she's undefeated. She closed with authority on the small track at Midland to take the Spartan. Last start here, she broke at the start and made up lots of ground in the middle stages. Shezalock has the Spartan won at Midland with a size able lead entering the stretch but she made to untimeliest of breaks that cost her the money. We liked her as a longshot last out at Hazel and she finished second at 18-1. We like her again.

Race 7:
Second division of the 2 Year Old Colt Pace and this one is a wide open affair so let's see if we can find a price. Wehaveasituation is a horse that flew in in the last quarter in his qualifier at Sarnia to the tune of 28 and change. If he is going to make his debut at the Breeder's Futurity, he is on the right division to do so. Price will be right. Cool Hand Luke is probably the one to beat, but is coming off of a month layoff. Admiral's Legacy has been improving and he can race from on or off the pace. Wrenn returns to drive. Right Back was undefeated until his last start when he tired a bit after a perfect trip.
$5 WP 3 Total $10.

Race 8:
3 YO Colt Trot...AKA the Keyodee Star show takes place in race 8. Winner of 10 of 14 in 2009 and 14 of 24 overall, Keyodee Star has no doubt been the dominant force here in this division. He's taken 4 of his last 5 starts against this competition and now draws the rail. His only 2 losses in this division came on a break and a tough trip at Fowlerville. If he does make a miscue, Perfect Scam does own a victory against Star. Scam's form has since dulled a little. Cadillac Kid was a hard trying second to Star at Midland. Debi's Keeper has been a consistent door knocker at this level. Let's enjoy.

Race 9:
3 YO Colt Pace and what is lacking in quantity is certainly not lacking in quality here. This is a competitive 5 horse field. Our pick to repeat is Let's Go Blue. We have been watching this horse grow up in overnights here at Hazel and we have seen this horse improve into a pretty solid pacer. It paid off last out at Midland as he outlasted the speed and the late rush of JoJo N Goliath to win the Spartan. We think he has turned the corner in his form and may establish himself as the 3 YO to beat heading into Night of Champions. Snow God wowed Hazel nation earlier in the year with impressive speed showings. He will be the one to catch again here tonight. JoJo N Goliath has the late speed, and only 4 other foes to pass so striking position won't be an issue. Wolverine winner Carson City Road draws the rail and may get the trip behind Snow Dog. Fully Loaded Gun is the longshot of the 5 horse field. This is going to be a good one.
$5 exacta 2 with 135. Total $15.

Race 10:
Back to overnight affairs here in the tenth and Rompaway Yum Yum is the one to beat. She has been very consistent at this level and her times are consistently better then the rest. Nochildleftbehind has had two tough losses to Rhianna Devine, who has since gone on to race well against tougher. Our pick however is Caballo Diablo. Last time at this class, he won it at a pretty nice price. Let's see of the return to this class can spark a better effort.
$5 WP 7. Total $10.

Race 11:
3 YO Filly Pace in the final Breeders Futurity Event and the entry of Grey Day and Celtic Danser will be tough to beat in here. Grey Day is working on a 4 race win streak while 2 YO Filly Champion Celtic Danser has been coming up short to the upstart AJ's April Doll in her last 2 starts. AJ's April Doll pulled off a big upset two starts back in the Platinum at Hazel. She proved it wasn't a fluke by repeating the feat in the Spartan. Admiral's Lady Di is going to have tough treading from post 9, but she does have the speed to overcome that post and she does like the bigger track.
$4 Trifecta 5 with 13 with 123. Total $16.

Race 12:
Distant Memories is definitely the dominant speed in here (and every race he's in). Problem this time is, there is some speed inside of him. If we get a duel here, this race sets up well for late speed and that may be Eng Amer Benns Best. Changed stables two starts back and won right out of the gate for his new connections. Raced well in defeat last out. Our pick to gun down the speed here tonight.
$4 Exacta 7 with 234. Total $12.

Race 13:
Going to go for longshot JD Johnnie in this spot. He has a huge late kick and is just working his way 5th start off of a layoff. He has been racing evenly against tougher. There is the potential for a speed duel in here, and that will help our charge's chances.
$5 WP 1. Total $10.

Race 14:
Stanley B has been knocking at the door in this class against the razor sharp Dogwood Ardle who is not in this race today. Same class but a softer field for Stanley here tonight. Virtual Cowboy is coming off of a nice win and if the speed is short in here, he can follow Stanley up to win. Captain Cool is coming off of an improved effort.
$4 exacta box 7 with 28. Total $16.

Race 15:
We'll try the grey Polar Bear. First time Kody off the scratch sick but the race before raced well in defeat to Southview Johnnie in Toledo. Johnnie is coming off of a wake up effort after a dull effort in his local debut. Allamerican Comet knows only one way and that's on the front end.
$4 exacta box 124. Total $24.
